Upcoming Gluten Classes at The Life Long Learning Center at Athens State University

Gluten Free Living classes will begin on Wednesday January 25, 2017 from 8:30-10am as part of the Healthy Eating Series  at the Life Long Learning Center.

Living Gluten Free, January 25, 2017: 8am-11:30am. Being told by a doctor that you or a member of your household has to avoid gluten can feel overwhelming! This class is specifically designed to help you understand the challenges you face and how to overcome them. You will learn about eating out, cross contamination in your home and get some general information that will get you on a path to better health.

This class is not just for those who are trying to live gluten free. It is also for those who have friend or family members that are trying to avoid gluten. The information that you will receive will help you be more supportive and informed.

Gluten Free on a Budget February 8 11:30 am to 1 pm. A light lunch will be served. Converting to a gluten free diet may seem overwhelming. This class will teach you that it does not have to be overly expensive, time consuming or challenging. Learning how to find gluten in the ingredient panels and how to use the products currently in the marketplace can be essential to your health.

Shopping Gluten Free February 25. This class will be done in a local grocery store. We will shop the isles together and look at the ingredient panels identifying potential problems. We will also look at safe foods to replace some of your favorite foods you can no longer have. There is gluten lurking in places you would not expect. I will help you navigate the gluten land mines on the grocery store shelves.

Quick & Easy Gluten Free Meals- We will discuss making great, gluten free meals and freezing them for that late work day when you do not have time to cook. I might be soccer night, or any number of things we juggle in our busy life. Those are the time that are the most difficult to eat right. We will also talk about shopping for gluten free foods and what to look for on the ingredient panel.

Eating Out and Traveling on a Gluten Free Diet. To prepare you for summer vacation travel… we will discuss how to handle eating in restaurants and hotels. This can be stressful when traveling and we will give you tips so you can dine out more confidently.

Saturday June 25, 2016  12:30-2:00 P.M.

How to Setup Your Gluten Free Kitchen- This class will focus on how to store foods and setting your up your kitchen to avoid cross-contamination issues. Cross-contamination is a real concern when living in a blended home. There are different things you can do to stay healthy when others in the home are still eating gluten.

Saturday August 27, 2016 12:30-2:00 P.M. 

This class with focus on Quick and Easy Meals. This class will help you with the back to school schedule and focus on meal planning and last minute dinners. We will also talk about shopping for gluten free foods.

Saturday October 29, 2016 12:30-2:00 P.M.

This class will focus on Nutrition and Supplements. We will discuss the pros and cons of what is available on the Gluten Free Market. We will discuss how to handle the upcoming Holidays so that you can enjoy them worry free!

There are no classes scheduled during the Holiday Season. However…

I am available for holiday party planning! It is very frustrating to go to a holiday party and not be able to each much if anything that is served! Pass my information on to your corporate event planner. I am happy to work with them so that everyone at the party can enjoy the food.
